Seven GREAT reasons to return to Norwich

We can't wait to welcome you back! Love from The Assembly House X
A classic day at the seaside
Norfolk’s seaside never goes out of style, from historic amusements to stunning coastlines. Take a nostalgic trip to Great Yarmouth, watch the legendary Hippodrome Circus, ride the historic wooden rollercoaster, drift through the Venetian Waterways, or have tea and cake at the cat café. Hop on a boat for a trip to see a seal colony, see Vikings burn a ship on the beach at Sheringham, marvel at the 200 candy-coloured beach huts at Wells-next-the-Sea (you can even book one for the day!) and visit the beach Hollywood can't get enough of at Holkham. Finally, watch a show on Cromer Pier, home to the world’s last end-of-the-pier variety show, and don’t forget to sample the town’s famous fresh crab!

The colours of the seasons
Norfolk is a place of breathtaking natural beauty all year round. Come for snowdrops at Walsingham Abbey, where thousands of delicate white blooms transform the landscape each February. In spring, walk through a carpet of bluebells in Blickling Hall’s woods. Spend an autumn afternoon beneath the golden canopy of Sheringham Park, Fairhaven Gardens, or Lynford Arboretum. Or visit in June and stand among the fragrant waves of Norfolk’s world famous lavender fields at Heacham. And don’t forget the clear skies for star-gazing, which are internationally renowned in the north of the county.

Take to the water
There’s no better way to experience Norfolk’s big skies and tranquil beauty than from the water. Hire a boat (or paddleboard!) in Norwich or Wroxham, cruise aboard a Mississippi paddle boat on the River Bure, embark on a seal safari to Blakeney Point, take a ride on Hunstanton’s famous Wash Monster, or drift through The Waterways in Great Yarmouth on a pedalo.

One of our famous themed Afternoon Teas
We are internationally renowned for our ever-changing themed Afternoon Teas, each one a feast for the senses and the imagination. You’ll always find seasonal favourites: Easter, a Summer Spectacular, an Autumnal feast, Halloween, and our magical Christmas Tea, but what will be next? A fairy tale? A musical? A film? There’s always a new adventure waiting on the cake stand and something new brewing when it comes to tea!

The Thursford Christmas Spectacular
Imagine Christmas distilled into its purest magic, and you’ll glimpse the wonder of Thursford at Christmas. With a West End-standard festive extravaganza, Santa’s Magical Journey, and the world’s largest collection of steam engines and fairground organs, this is Christmas at its most enchanting.
Festivals, fireworks, and fun
Norfolk is a country of celebration! Time your return visit with the dazzling Norfolk and Norwich Festival, a citywide carnival of music, theatre, circus, and art each May. Experience the thrill of fireworks over Norfolk at Bonfire Night, be enchanted by the festive magic of Christmas in the Norwich Lanes, or lose yourself in a sea of books at the Noirwich Crime Writing Festival.

A sunset you’ll never forget
Most of Norfolk’s beaches face north or east, but a few secret spots offer something spectacular: a sunset over the sea. Head to Hunstanton, where the sun melts into the horizon behind its famous red and white striped cliffs, or watch the sky turn gold over the tidal creeks of Thornham and Brancaster. If the weather isn’t on your side, cosy up in a seafront bar with a cocktail in hand and soak in the view. In the wintertime, you can see seals from a safe distance at spots along the coast, including Horsey near Great Yarmouth.
